It probably cuts production costs by not having to pay for another actor/Stig, also it eliminates a variable when testing cars, the driver, by having the same one do every lap.

Ever thought maybe Top Gear US is trolling? Why would they knowingly release a picture that revealed the Stig's identity, when he's the nameless, faceless tamed racing driver? I think it's probably just them screwing with everyone. Could be wrong, but I don't think I am.
